Last week I received an Eames Shell Chair for free! Ok, so let me back up a bit. This year I have been trying to do a lot of things outside of my comfort zone. A couple of months ago I saw that Herman Miller in Philly was having a contest of how you would design, or redesign this chair (using all or parts of the chair). This was one of those out of my comfort zone things that I just entered before I could overthink it. Below was the design that I entered, and lo and behold they picked it!
The fun part is that I don’t get to keep this chair (although it is SO comfy and now I want to buy one :-). All 15 of them will be auctioned off on October 10th during DesignPhiladelphia. I can’t wait to see all of the designs! All proceeds will go to the Philadelphia Charter High School for Architecture and Design. The event is open to everyone, and I’d love to see you there! You just have to register at the event page, linked in the photo below.
I was allowed to pick the color and either with or without arms. I choose peacock blue and with arms. Below is from the day they dropped it off.
I’m using this fabric that I designed and had printed through Spoonflower. You may recall that a couple of years ago I designed it and made a few pillows called the Market East Collection. This fabric is based on the tiled walls at Market East Train Station in Philly (now called Jefferson Station).
I’ll update you on the progress of this project. I have to complete it by October 1st, so wish me luck! You can follow along on my Instagram stories, where I post much more often than this blog 🙂 @brandeyehome.
Wow!!! I’m so proud of you for stepping out of your comfort zone. It is so hard to do. I’m amazed that you designed this fabric! It is so funky!! I can’t wait to see how your chair turns out!!
Thanks so much! It turned out great. I have to make a follow up post about it.
